My furnace seems to be running constantly. Seems to only shut off for a minute or two before it kicks in again. Sometimes the air feels colder as well (even when set at 23).

The furnace was just installed Jan of 2016. Does anyone have any advice?

Call the person that put it in and get them to have a look. That’s only been installed for a year, should be warranty.

Check/change your furnace filter. If that does it solve the problem call your installer and ask about any warranty. A home furnace is something that is neglected far too often by far too many home owners

I literally had this happen new years eve.

Change your filter. If this doesn't help, call an electrician. In my case, changing the filter didn't help and it turned out to be a burnt out element (?).

We always call Nickel Electric - great guys!

A sequencer-that was the exact problem with mine last fall. Also, the summer switch was wonky-had to flip it off and on to make it set on "cold weather" again. Electrician ran a bypass so it will always be on "cold westher".

Manitoba hydro will come and check out the furnace and do the work for free if there is no warranty.

They save on natural gas but get you on repairs. I have heard that.

I have an electric furnace and most of the repairs I can do myself.

Actually, it works out to less.

To switch to gas I would need a furnace and new ductwork. Let's say $6K. I will never make that back. I insulated the basement, reinsulated upstairs, got a 120 volt electric fireplace. My furnace does not come on all day, even when it is -30C.

when you factor in the repairs on and maintainence on the gas furnace the savings do not seem so significant, electric furnaces are almost bullet proof and very simple to repair .

could let us know how your problem got fixed. In the past mine were once the dirty filter, once the ignate sensor needed to brushed and cleaned and once was the cold weather frost got in the pipes outside.

So this was actually an easy fix....

I knew it probably wasn’t the filter bc I’m pretty good at changing them every three months or so. I had just done it last in early Dec. The fan had been switched to on when it’s normally on auto. So silly oversight on my part.... I appreciate all the replies tho!

Good for you. Should it happen again you know a few things to check before calling a repair guy. Had you called someone you would have been looking at 75 for the service call.possible $7 vehicle charge plus taxes.
Could have been an expensive lesson.

We leave fan on all the time

Our Plumbing & Heating dude recomended leaving the fan on continously to keep air circulating all the time. If you hold your hand right over the dampers when the elements aren't on it does feel cool, but it's just because the air is moving, it's not really blowing cold air around. We never know when the furnace is kicking in because the heat just seems to stay constant.

I think Ceiling fans (spinning in the correct direction) are recommended for this as well.

I should have thought of this when I read your OP as ours does the same if we have the fan run continuous, something I wish it wouldn't. If the fan is on all the time, it shuts down when the purge blower runs for a minute, then starts up when the plenum gets hot. Wish the fan could run continuously, so we decided to turn the fan off and it only runs now when heating.

Sounds like your filter maybe be plugged ? The way your describing it your furnace is cutting in and out on hi-limit
