we had a bad case of ants in our back yard and at the camp site..We were told to pour a bunch of ash over the anthills and that ants hate it because of the acidity...we did it and noticed a difference in ant activity. Maybe keep a few buckets or bags and sell it...Hey, might be a good way to rid yourself of excess and make a few bucks..

I never would have thought about lawn and garden! Ants keep getting into my home - there's too many...

If you are using wood ashes in flowerbeds, or around evergreens, remember they can change the soil ph level, they will lower the acidity of the soil.

Wood ash tends to be quite alkaline, so it raises pH when added to soil. It makes soil less acidic, not more. Wood Ash. Adding wood ash raises pH, but it also adds much-needed nutrients to the soil. Wood ash contains potash, phosphate, iron, manganese, boron, copper and zinc in levels that vary depending on what type of wood the ash came from.

A friend of mine sprinkles it on icy sidewalks and it works great.

Thanks for the offer but we already have a wood burning stove and always had been throwing the ashes away at the dump! Now we can do something with them

I dump mine on icy parts of my street and at stop signs so nobody slides through..
