Hi I'm looking for people's opinions on how to paint my kitchen cabinets. The faces are oak and the sides are melamine ( a laminate like finish)  
I am hoping to paint them white.  
I have had differing opinions from paint shops - leaving me confused.  
Anyone have experience with this that can help me out? Thank you!

I did my cabinets with Advance by Benjamin Moore. It is about $90 for a gallon but you should only need 1 gallon. I did mine in white and I am very pleased with how they turned out. It's been 5 months and have no chips or scratches on them.

Those look great! Are the sides of yours melamine? I'm worried about paint sticking? Did you prep the sides with something?

My husband said the sides were melamine. Our cupboards were compressed wood like shelving / partical board . I had always wanted to paint them because around the knobs they were pealing and looked gross. I lightly sanded them and washed them down with TPS to get all dirt and grease off. I did about 2 or 3 coats but make sure you leave them for 24 to 48 hours in between coats as the paint needs to cure. ( Instructions on can). Once done the paint hardens and looks like a hard enamel. If you have any wear marks on the door or around the handles we used wood filler and then sanded it off to level it. I wish I had done mine years ago as I absolutely love the look of them now.
