Building or deconstructing a deck

Just curios how much roughly will it costs to build or replacing an existing deck with composite "wood" and railings. Deck is 10x14.

Priced this out last spring on an 8x8 ft deck new build and I think all in wood it was about $2600 and in composite but with aluminium railings it was near $6000. The builder didn’t really like working in composite due to the extra fittings etc. We had it all done in wood, he did a great job and we are happy with it.

I saw another post that someone quoted him $30,000 to build a deck a little bigger than yours. Wow! That sounds like way too much money for a deck that size.

Is composite deck reliable for our climate? I read that it is hot to walk on if the weather is hot and we do get some hot days in the summer. What about in the winter?

We built a composite deck last summer and it’s been great.... not hot in the summer and weathered the winter fine. We didn’t go with the cheapest composite or the most expensive.... we did middle of the road. It hasn’t scratched either from furniture or shovelling. I would highly recommend.

What kind of composite material? Are there different ones? It's only last summer, so hard to tell. Might need a few years to see results. May I know how much it cost and how big is your deck?

Our neighbour’s have the same composite and have had it for many years.... it’s just as good as the day it was built.... no scratches, no wear from the sun or winter. It’s Trex Transcend from Mcmunn and Yates ... or google Trex. I think the cost was around $6/LF.

Had our Trex deck for 10 years

Love it...no problems and no maintenance.
