Im a new user....thank God. But I have a couple of questions about using it. Firstly, what do you set your temperature to come on during the day? We got a Nest Learning Thermostat as well so its programmable.  
 
Also. when you fire it up for the first time, keeping in mind there was no AC in the home, did you find it ran for a long time before it got to the temperature it was set for.  
Also, second floor cooling. It doesn't seem to cool as well upstairs. Is this common? Is there a solution for this? We bought an older, larger home(2000 sq ft plus) with a 2.5 ton new AC unit.  
What is your experience with central AC in the extreme heat with humidity?

I bought a house four years ago. It’s a 1950s style house by Harrison school. It has central air. My basement is freezing. My main floor is nice and cool and my top floor is coolish but during the mid day it can get warm up there.  
 
The first time it ran it worked hard to get your house from whatever temperature it was to your desired set point. Now it won’t let your house temp get to far from your desired set point so it won’t work so hard to keep it there.

Depending on the houses set up 2.5 ton may be too small for the size of your home. You can also close off other vents though and send more cool air upstairs. When we get our unit serviced every spring we close off the basement vents as cool air falls and it’s cold enough as is in the basement, this forces more cold air into the upstairs.  
 
The first time running it will take much longer as it has to work to reach a certain temperature and maintain a certain degree of humidity.
