Water conditioner

Does anyone have any experiences to share, good or bad, in switching from a traditional water softener That uses salt to a “Hydroflow” type water conditioner that goes externally around the pipe? Did you find that the water was as soft as with the salt water softener? Less scale build up etc? Thanks in advance.
