    Painting over stucco

    Is there any disadvantage or concern of painting stucco siding? Stucco looks old and requires a some freshen up but I'm afraid painting over stuccos may have concern where the paint may come off in a few years.

    Stucco painting

    First of all repair any minor damage. Pressure wash the stucco, let it dry then paint. Should be ok.  
     
    I have just done this no problem, then a neighbour’s house had their stucco painted exactly the same process.

    We were recommended to use elastomeric masonry paint. One coat had great coverage. We rolled and brushed. Holding up great after 7-8 years. If you have a real heavily textured stucco you may need to spray.

    Painting Over Stucco

    I painted over 65-year-old white stucco about 4 years ago, still looks like new. No washing required as rain takes care of that. You can dry brush away any dirt from under eves, etc. as you move along with brush or roller. I used Dulux acrylic matt with a tint of "calm winds" so much nicer than white. Enjoy!
