Electrical Fire Question

I am so scared that i am going to have an electrical fire in my house. I have a light fixture in my kitchen that has been dripping brown water all day.
I know this insnt safe, but if i dont use the light(obviously im not)can it still cause an electrical fire?
I am renting a house and have contacted my landlord by email as he is in Columbia for the winter. I just cant shake the fear that im going to be at home alone with my 6 month old baby having a nap and a fire starts.
Can anyone give me some reassurance or ideas on what to do?
