protecting hard wood floor

We bought a couple of antique oak dining chairs recently. They have round metal pieces on the bottom of each leg. I'm wondering if this will mark up the hardwood floor....should I replace the metal pieces with felts? The round metal pieces are stuck on the bottom of each leg, but I could pry them off with a screwdriver.
