I'm looking into redoing my cupboards. They are melamine (straight out of the 80's). Does anyone have any experience? They are a beigey color now. I'm wanting to use that rustoleum cupboard transformation kit. Would this work? Or what has worked for anyone in the past? TIA

Are they the stick on type? We are wanting to get rid of our look too. Funny you posted as we were just talking about this yesterday.

My mom repainted hers in the 90s. They were a terrible wood grain melamine from the 70s and she painted them white using melamine paint. She needed to sand and put on a high-adhesion primer first. It lasted about 10 years until they finally had the money to gut their kitchen and redo it.  
 
On a side note, she also painted her appliances. They were harvest gold (us kids called them "yellow", much to her annoyance) and she spray painted them white with appliance paint.

We used the rustoleum kitchen transformations kit and loved this product. We took our cabinets from 80's oak to a crisp white. It says that this product is good for melamine cupboards so you should be fine. I have heard many great reviews on this product from other people. I will say tho, it says it is a weekend project. Not the case for us. It took us a few hours a day for two weeks. Given we do have a lot of cabinets and we were going from a dark wood to white. We did a few extra coats. Overall I am very happy with the end result.

I have been looking at this kit for a while to redo our super-80's oak cupboards as well. Did you have enough with one kit? Do you happen to have any before and after pictures you wouldn't mind sharing?
