Installing vinyl siding on an old house

Looking for if anyone knows how much it would cost to have old wood siding and trim removed and vinyl siding installed on a 100 year old house? It's 1 3/4 stories, might have to have some sheathing replaced as well. Might be interested in doing new windows at the same time. Anyone have ballpark numbers, or know who does free estimates in Souris?

My guess would be $16,000. Get multiple quotes. When I got quotes for mine, they varied by +/- $3,000 which is a nice chunk of change to save. Ask for references and go drive to their past projects and take a look to see their quality. Knock on their door and see what the home owner says about cleanliness, timelines, etc.

We had quotes on our house and it was between $16000-$20000. Yours will likely be similar. Needless to say we had to pass as its too much for us

I have been thinking about putting tin (seconds) and tongue and groove insulation on my house that is a similar age as Tater's house (about 100 years old) and wanting to replace windows as well - would anyone know what that would cost?

Estimate for our house was $18000 for siding. Windows would vary as to how many, how big, quality, etc

We had done everything else and just wanted siding but it wasn't worth the cost, especially since we moved out 6 months later.

consider leaving the old wood siding on and strap with either 2 by or 1 by with Styrofoam, a lot less work. just make your window jambs to the new wall thickness. Mine worked like a charm.

If I could leave the old wood siding I would, but it's not in good condition, the amount of work involved in repairing it, replacing boards in bad condition, probably a little of the sheathing too, I think I'd end up coming to the point of just stripping off the old siding anyway
Has anyone used insulated housewrap over sheathing instead of rigid foam?

Also consider Hydro loans for windows & siding...we did that quite a few years ago for just the siding. Sorry can't remember what it cost...was eavestroughs, too.

The hydro loan does not cover the full amount. There is a max of $8000 I think, I cant remember for sure. A far cry from the cost of $18,000-$20,000
