I have built a table and island top for a kitchen and was wondering if there is anyone out there who knows of a place that has a large drum sander to plane down the top and bottoms. My wood working friend has one but it''s not wide enough. My table is 36" x 66" and the island is  
30" x 48". Both pieces are 3" thick made from Douglas Fur. If anyone has any ideas please comment or PM me. Thanks so much.

would love to see a couple of pictures.  
 
i'd bet if you called a couple of the hardwood floor refinishers they would be able to suggest something.  
also I think you can rent sanders at C and C rentals or Home depot.

A Milling Machine in a machine shop surely they could deck off the top of your table for you

Uploaded a pic of the table. I don't want to touch the top too much and it has a bit of a crown already. But the botttomi need to be flat to affixe the legs.

Try any woodworking places? My parents had custom furniture made in Alberta and a local wood maker didn't have a big enough planer but had a huge belt sander for table tops.

You will never get that flat by sanding. Needs to be planed.  
 
How much does that thing weigh?

What about building a router sled? It would give you a good flat surface for the legs.

nice looking table top, what are you planning for the legsÉ what about adjustable or just planed on the ends where you will attach the legs, likely what i would do

This is the kind of sander we used on a table top due to the size being bigger than your standard planers. Plus a unit like this is much cheaper and smaller than a planer of mass size. I know running the sander we were well under a 1/32 of an inch for flatness.

I would second on the router sled if you are hands-on and patient

I have the table at a place that has a large planner to do the bottom. Some one had asked about the weight and I'm not sure, at least 75 lbs if not more. It's a beast that's for sure. And the legs are made out of metal pipes an fittings. Played with the sizes and got the table to height of 29 3/4 " - and the island at a perfect 36" !!! Painted the Legs a nice flat black. Going be a rustic/industrial decor piece for sure. Thank you to all for the insight and help.

I will post a picture of my finished product if anyone would like to see. Should be done next week. All in I'm way under $1000 doing it myself. Something to be said about building a piece like this by yourself!!! Wish I could do this full time !!
