I need a new cement floor in the basement over top of the old. Anyone have this done before or who does this type of work? or who does estimates.  
 
The floor is about 24'x24' and want it about 12" thick.

That's a lot of cement. Are you planing on diving a tank on it. Most floors are about 6 inches thick

I'm just guessing, I'm not sure how thick to put on. A tank? well at least at will hold up.lol

the floor only needs to be a few inches thick ,not a foot. our machine shed only had 6 inches in it and it would hold up a D7 Cat.if its going over an existing older floor, maybe an inch or 2.

This is why I was asking if anyone else had it done before. I have no idea about cementing over old.

Side walks are either 3 or 4"s thick, Commercial Floors are 5"s thick Industrial floors are 6"s thick, the tank apron for the German army at Shilo was 10"s thick

My parents did this to a old house quite a few years ago, the floor in the basement was badly pitted and in places the concrete had crumbled. We cleaned the floor the best we could by sweeping as well as washing, the base was very firm so a 2 inch covering was poured over the existing floor.  
Just going by your measurements, at a 2 inch depth you would likely need just over 3.5 yards of concrete.  
My measurements were based on 24x24 which would likely be the exterior measurements of the basement, so you might be able to get by with a bit less, but it's always nice to have a bit over as opposed to not having enough.

4 inches is all you need for a floor in a house, driveways are only 6 and they support a car.  
 
as you are going over older concrete floor 2 inches should suffice unless you are trying to creat a slope to a drain or the floor is heaved in which case take the high point then add 2 inches.

Can you report cement over an old pitted floor with small cracks that seepage comes through when the water table is high?  
 
I already have weeping tile and that's reduced the amount of seepage - but there is dampness along a few cracks.

If you are cementing over an existing floor that is cracked I would try and figure out what caused the cracks and if they where going to reoccur. If you are sure that more cracking is not likely going to occur you can pour a concrete layer over the existing floor, and you could treat the floor with xypex. It is something that can be painted on and is absorbed into the concrete to form a waterproof seal. Ask at the redimix plants and they could likely get the product.

Personally I would grind it down and ecopoxy it over, save u a pile of money and it's durable and a nice finish
