trailers and modular homes have come a long way over the years as far as they way they are built, many are built very similar as a house is but the layout will have to accommodate moving, many companies will put them on pillars or even a basement but that does make the price go up
if the layout isn't your style there are also RTM's which are houses built to move, many times they are a bit cheaper then buying a new house but because of the move there are still limitations
even with houses you have different options
you can get a new build in a new subdivision with a choice of a few house styles rotated on the lots, you will have very limited amount of choices on finishes ect, they are a cheaper way to get a new house because the builder mass produces them
then you can get a custom built house, which is a house you get a contractor (or several if you do the organization of the trades) and the limits are only mandated by codes and your budget
you could also buy a used house which tends to hold its value a bit better then a mobile and can vary in price, how old, how well done ect and can be a good option
if you do go the trailer route personally i also prefer to won the land it sits on, but that will depend on codes in your town and availability/budget ect
if you dont know all the pros and cons shop around, ask questions in all these areas and your bank so you go in with full knowledge, good luck
