How to convert attic?

Just wondering if anyone out there knows what the process would be to convert an attic space (in an old character home) into a livable area?

Would you need to get an engineer to inspect and approve it to make sure it can be done? Or anyone else?

Thanks for any info you can provide or feedback if you have done this before

your correct,the first step would be to have a structural engineer evaluate the space,they would be able to tell you if attic floor was designed to meet building code loading requirements,along with headroom,condensation factor,etc etc
