Sidewalk cement mixture

What is the ideal mixture in concreting a side walk? Do I need to mix lime, portland cement and sand or just portland cement and sand? Any suggestion please and what is the mixture ratio?

I use one part cement to three parts sand and enough water to make it like toothpaste

When I did mine using a mixer I sprayed some water in with the hose. Add one shovel of cement, three shovels sand and three shovels stone. Add more water. Just wet enough to pour.

Does lime make a concrete more durable that it won't flake with the exposure to manitoba winter and summer?

We always mixed concrete at a ratio of 2 parts sand, 3 parts 3/4 inch crushed rock and one part cement powder, if you sand is wet you have limit your water a bit, always tried to make the mixture so it would sort of pile when poured in the wheel barrow, but would level out after a few shakes when you were moving it about.
