The two girls who are school age and mom have been battling this for months. We tried nix tea tree and mayonnaise and it always comes back. Any help or tips to get rid of these nasty bugs?

After the shampoo treatment are you using the comb/picking the nits out daily? If not they will keep rehatching. The shampoo, mayonnaise etc only works on live bugs.  
 
If you can''t get rid of them I would make a Dr apt or call a public health nurse for advice.  
 
It takes a lot of time and persistence to remove the nits  
 
Also make sure you are not re-infecting. That you are washing bedding, clothing etc in hot water, hot dryer etc.

Use a flat iron on higher heat. It cooks the lice & eggs.

Doesn’t work. Go to shoppers and ask pharmacist for nyda. Also get the metal comb, it is way better than cheap plastic ones. Still keep up the cleaning routine. Tea tree is just a deterrent for them, doesn’t actually get rid of them.

Everyone has to be combed thru everyday and laundry done: bedding, hats, coats, clothes. Furniture needs be vaccummed.

Use tea tree oil and regular shampoo and conditioner. Wash hair like normal adding tea tree oil to the mixture. Go through the hair and take the lives ones out but also instead of trying to get the nit off the strand of hair use tweezers and pull the whole strand right out. And small small sections. Twice a day. Very tedious but it has to be done

So that they will send out a memo to all the parents and then they will look in their kids hair. Catching them early is so much easier when there are 5 VS 50. And basically yes, comb your kids hair with nit comb daily, those lil combs really do catch them. Get the ones with the tines very close together. Best to you!!

Nit pick all day. As often as you can. Missing one results in another outbreak. Nit pick for weeks. Truly as often as possible for a week, and then daily for 3 weeks. It’s a pain, but better than another go around with lice. Try “resultz”. More expensive than nix but more effective. Straightener may help with some, but the bugs move fast and it will not get them all

Between resultz, using an electric comb, and hand picking all eggs, along with washing and vacuuming anything and everything, they should disappear quickly. But that electric comb was a game changer for our family.

If you are having real problems with head lice, go to your doctor and ask if they have any treatments that contain ivermectin. Some people may think of treating pets and animals with the mention of ivermectin, but it is used in treating head lice, as well as scabies in humans.

Vacuum your car as head rests and seats are a big culprit too and most people don’t think to do it.

Car, car seats, couch, pillows , stuffed toys, winter coats, hats , everything? A blow dryer works on car seats and couches and stuffed toys and pillows cans be treated in a hot dryer, once treated you can also place them in a garbage bag & vacuum by sealing bag around vacuum hose and turning it on

There is someone out of Winnipeg that will come and help you go through the head I don’t know the name though. It’s honestly just a tedious job you need to do at least twice a day for two full weeks. And then continue checking after that. I also have a spray bottle with water, tea tree oil and peppermint oil and spray the kids hakr after every wash and each morning before brushing. Also missing one nit starts the whole cycle over again. This is why I suggested using a fine comb and tweezers and when you come across a nit pull the whole strand of hair out

It’s not a shampoo and comb, now done scenario. Laundry vacuuming, and daily head checks are a must: soaking head for two hours in vinegar and mineral oil helps dissolve the glue that is used too attach the nits to the hair shaft.  
Everyone in the house needs to be treated and combed out.  
And treatment in 4-6 days after stops the hatched nits from reproducing.

Thought I might provide a link that helps explain the life cycle of head lice, on thing I noticed while reading the link had to do with how often a louse had to eat to remain alive. I had thought that they could live longer without being on the host, but they need food and heat to survive.

We used Listerine to kill them, but the tricky part is the combing - every. single. day. to get all the nits (eggs) out. I ordered a metal comb off Amazon to do this, and doing it while the hair is covered in conditioner works best. Then retreat in 10 days or so (so, Listerine with a shower cap for 15 min or so, then rinse out). They re-appeared when school started again and I almost had a meltdown...never thought we'd get rid of them. Then I started putting a drop of Tea Tree essential oil on my finger, rubbing it onto my kids scalp and the sides of her head (above the ears) right before bed...haven't had them re-appear again!

It’s oily and takes a couple washes to wash out of hair the next day but it is by far the best stuff I have used!! The pharmacist told me that the head louse is becoming resistant to the other stuff as it is used so much. I tried the other stuff a couple of times and never completely seemed to eradicate the lice. I also got on line to “study” the life cycle of the head louse. Once I understood that I was able to eliminate the problem all together. The combing makes all the difference. When you have the problem you must be diligent with the combing to get rid of the nits. Then once a week I “ head check” and comb out the hair with globbs of cheap hair conditioner and a metal comb ordered off of Amazon. We have not had another case of head lice in this house in 3 years.

I battled lice for two months in my home. Here is what I learned.  
Use NIX - mayo / tea tree etc does not work  
Follow the instructions EXACTLY. You must follow the schedule. Do the treatment one day early and they will come back. Do at least 3 nix treatments on exactly day 7.  
Get a metal nit comb. One for each child. Comb for nits daily if you can or at least every two days while in treatment.  
Use a flat iron. Get as close to the scalp as you can without burning the child's head.  
Keep up with checking the head every few days after you think you're already clear. I was always crushed when I found that ONE darn lice on week three...right when I thought we had it beat. I found it very difficult to see nits. However, if you do the exact instructions on the Nix you will get them eventually.  
You can also try the vinegar treatment in between. Soak half vinegar / half water on the hair for half an hour. Then rinse and comb through with the nit comb. It is supposed to loosen the nit glue. The metal nit comb will be your best weapon. Also, I found it easier to see lice when the hair is wet, it slows them down.  
If all else fails, there is a "Lice Lady" in Winnipeg who will do a complete nit picking and treatment for you. She has a website online.

You must pick for nits. treat with shampoo, comb out all the easy ones and dispose of, wash all bedding and dry on hot, anything that can't be washed freeze in garbage bags for two weeks in deep freeze or outside if the cold temperatures are maintained.  
Use a detangler if needed to make it easier to slip the comb through the hair to remove all that are easy to remove and to find any eggs attached to the hairs, and pull them off the hair like pulling a bead off a string. Pay special attention to the back of the head and behind the ears.
