Thoughts on letting your baby cry it out?

Please note that the original text of this post was unfortunately lost during updates to this site Friday night. The post contained a person with an 8 month old baby wondering what worked to get baby to stop needing night feedings and to be able to sleep through the night. She knew what the books said, but wanted real people who had experience to share what worked for them! She was wondering how people felt about letting baby cry it out at that age, if it was an appropriate age to start doing that!
