I was at Wal-Mart earlier today, And as I turned a corner with my cart I almost collided with an oncoming cart. No big news flash there.  
 
The problem is that the oncoming cart had a young boy (maybe 7ish) hanging onto the front of the cart. If we had collided that boy could have been hurt, Maybe seriously.  
 
Everything turned out fine in this case but it got me thinking about what could have happened. As I finished my shopping I noticed several other children riding in the same way. Some with two or three kids in and hanging off the carts.  
 
I made a point of looking at the carts and they all have clearly posted directions showing proper placement of children in the carts.  
 
When I got home I was discussing what happened with some friends and one of them told me stories about 2 separate accidents they had seen, One quite like what almost happened to me but worse because it ended with an injured child. The other was about a cart that had sister inside and brother hanging off the side of the cart, apparently the mom let go of the cart and the unbalanced weight of the brother tipped the cart over with his sister inside, Injuring both children.  
 
 
I'm certainly not trying to tell anyone how to treat their children, I just wonder if everyone is aware of how dangerous shopping carts can be.
