I don't really know what to say besides the fact that I am very offended by an article displayed in the Brandon Sun Saturday morning, readying "Into a Brighter Future". So here's to the Brandon Sun.
Dear Brandon Sun,
My name is Kelsey and I too am a young teen mom. I am very offended by the article written in Saturdays paper. I grew up with Rachelle and I know she doesn't deserve to have her name slapped all over that article the way you did. I do understand that your intentions were positive but I don't think with all the information, through out all your interviews with her, you needed to put the most negative of things (drug addiction, alcohol abuse, not keeping track of her menstrual cycle?), you could have left it at the simple "going down the wrong path" stated in the article before hand. Not only is raising a child young hard enough, you've now just made it worse by pointing out to future employees, friends, school administrators, that she was a troubled teen, into alcohol, drugs, and unsafe sex practices. Like I said before, your intentions were more then likely positive but this was way to far! I know for a fact herself and her family were raged but you cant really do anything about it now, the past is in the past.
Thanks for your time, Kelsey 18 yrs old, mother of 1, Quinntin.
This is too all the young moms I know are out there and too all the young teen girls and boys thinking about sex or who are having sex! Growing up is hard, but growing up with a baby is even harder. Be a teen while you can, it's fun and you can enjoy it more. Even with all the support young moms get now a days nothing is never enough. There is never enough money, enough time, enough diapers, enough formula, enough patience, enough sleep, etc. So if your thinking about having sex or having a baby or if you are pregnant think about what is right, it will never be easy again. We dont have time to be worrying about another person this young, we need to worry about what to wear to school the next day, what were doing on the weekend or how were going to pass our drivers test. Just think twice about the choices you make young, they'll follow you for a life time.
This discussion shouldn't just be about the Brandon Sun but for young mothers as well but maybe a place where young mothers to be and young mothers now can talk about the negative aspects and positive aspects of being a mother. Maybe someone will listen.
