Loss of appetite

My son is 16 months old (almost 17). And lately he seems uninterested in food. He still eats his 3 meals a day and his snack, but he is eating much smaller portions. He never cries that he is hungry, and when we ask him he says "no". But I am just curious, do kids appetites decrease around this age or? He does have a bit of a cold, so maybe that has something to do with it, but it started before he even got his cold.
