Tubes in infants ears

My child has recently had this surgery. I know that children are not supposed to get water in their ears but I can't get the the plugs (silicone) into the ear.
We were in weekly swimming lessons but am not sure we would be able to continue if I don't figure something out.
Does anyone have any ideals of how to get the plugs into the ear or any alternatives?
