I am about to become a new Mom and I am curious, when it comes to hiring a high school babysitter, what do you pay. Do you pay for an entire evening or afternoon or do you pay by the hour. Also, what do most people pay for an hour or an evening.  
 
When I was young and did babysitting jobs, I was expected to make sure the house was left in the same or better condition than when I arrived. ie: pick up all the toys and tidy the kitchen. Is this still expected?  
 
In return for keeping up with the above, it was common practice to leave snacks and refreshments for the person babysitting. When I was younger the snacks usually consisted of potato chips, pretzels, cookies and pop. As I have had a weight problem in the past, I am hoping to teach my children healthy eating habits and was wondering if snacks such as veggies and dip, fruit, granola and low sodium flavoured water would be acceptable with todays teenagers?
