Autism Causes

Does having surgury while pregnant cause autism? How about cigarettes, alcohol or drug use while pregnant? Mercury and lead?
I would appreciate anyone with factual infomation to post on this subject. I have heard so many things, everything from gentics to toxins in food causing Autism and I would like to know anyone elses' thoughts as on the news was a feature on how Autism is on the rise.
