i was thinking push presents was a form of parenting opposite to helicopter parenting, where the parent buys the kid stuff after pushing them to do things lol BUT while i dont think presents are mandatory it has always been custom to bring anyone in the hospital a gift including a new mom  
 
ps i did get the usual flowers, non requested but just as appreciated

I think there is way to much relevance based on money and presents now. I do know people who buy things for the new mom, I usually try to do something for the Mom at the baby showers. But to expect a "push present" ? shouldn't the new mom be concerned with her new baby and not what her husband gave to her?

Agreed. At his rate, we will be giving presents for getting all the items on a grocery list.  
 
Perfectly put. Use the money for baby supplies. A baby needs diapers and wipes more than a mom needs a "Push Present"

Why should you get a gift? You put yourself in that situation!!!

I too had to google what a "push present" was. It is in my opinion just a bit tacky. And feeds into the materialism that has taken over special life events.  
I'm glad to read that most women agree that the baby is the gift that counts, not bragging rights with girlfriends over who got the best present.

My goodness, GROW UP little girl! Once you become a Mom, it should be all about your precious new baby, what a wonderful gift to each other. It is time to become a grownup! The gifts are in the love and support as you co-parent. A nap, dishes being done, help around the house and with baby, taking the other children out for some precious Daddy time. Those are the gifts that count. Just out of curiousity what would you expect for a gift anyway? The one thing that might come to mind is if Daddy bought a little gift for the baby, not for you!

Having a baby means it's not about YOU anymore.
