Is it just me or has anyone else found it hard to find a daycare or child care provider for shift work? Ive been stuck for a while on this I work shifts and my husband works long hours, trying to find day care, especially in a small town is frustrating

If it's close to me I would love to try and help you out. I'm a stay at home mom and have been wanting to take in a couple kids.

Work shift work too and my husband also works long hours. Very hard in a small town to find evening care unless u wanna pay a babysitter $10 which to me is crazy lol I pay my daycare $30 for 8 or 9 hours and a babysitter expects $80 sorry no that's crazy

You can get away with paying a daycare worker $30 for a full day because they also have other kids, therefore other parents also paying $30/day. If they have 3 kids, that's $90 a day, or $11.25/hour. If you paid a babysitter $30 for 8 hours, that's $3.75/hour. Would YOU work a full shift for $3.75/hour? Would you work a full shift for anything less than minimum wage? It's not crazy that a sitter wants $10/hour, it's crazy that you think that's too much!

thats true but the DC worker also has more work to do, many times baby sitting is younger kids who are also not old enough to be employed at minimum wage nor are they claiming that income even if they are a SAHM, and usually sitting is flexible as in you can do your own thing you just have the kid with you so while it is a lesser amount there are other factors

Will charge more for extra kids but daycare workers do not? I would think the day care workers should be paid more an hour bc of the work they require to do with that man children. Babysitters expect $10 to watch one child which is fine I don't mind paying that. This topic is about shift work daycare just stating there is none and that a babysitter is required in my case which is way more than a daycare would charge and it would be nice if there were shift workers daycare that charge the same amount as a day day care

Anyone in the meadows area?

We live in Kenton. I work in Virden but have had to go casual because of not having day care. I also only worked part time and really do not want to go full time. I've been contemplating working back in brandon but the drive is just so far in winter. My husband is working only here and there, since he works in oil field. Just trying to figure things out

I too work shift work. After coming back from maternity leave a few months ago we have such a hard time finding care for our kids. We have hired a few nannys and are hoping our current one stays for the long term! I love my job, but if I have to keep looking for care every few months I will be looking into casual work and working when grandparents can take the kids, or my husband is home as he works out of town for 10 days at a time.  
Maybe someone in a similar situation in your area might be able to care for your kids while you are at work and you could do the same for them?
