How old is too old to go trick or treating? My daughter is 12 but looks maybe 14-15 last year she and some friends were told "aren't you getting too old to trick or treat!" I'm just happy that's what she's doing instead of sitting on her tablet or getting into mischief.

If she's in costume and enthusiastic and polite, she's welcome at my house...I've had young adults with no costume (very late teens or early 20's) and that bugs me...they shouldn't be trick or treating...if they need their sugar fix they can buy the candy the next day when it's 50% off

I love wen the older kids gout and enjoy the Halloween evening.  
 
It would be really nice if parents and teacher encouraged the older teens to dress up and head out.  
Go ahead and collect some candy for yourself but also ask for a food donation for those in need!

As long as the tween/teens have costumes on and they are enjoying themselves, being polite, and not bugging the little ones I think it is great.

Anyone wearing a costume gets candy. Maybe not as much as a little kid but they still get candy

12 is still pretty young so i wish these people wouldnt think they know whats going on and give your daughter a chance but for me i rather have tweens and teens come for candy then other crap they could be doing so imo as long as they put on some kind of costume and are polite let them have some fun !!!

12 is for sure not too old. Its too bad some people make comments like that and make kids feel bad. There's a lot worse things she could be doing!

I forgot to say a 12, 13, 14 should be able to head out in a costume and collect candy. They should be able to enjoy the evening too.

It's a holiday that is supposed to be fun.I don't care who you are or how old you are, as long as your in costume and say thank you.I give out candy without judgement and enjoy seeing everyone dressed up and having a good time.I have walked around with my daughter who is a taller girl for her age and had some people make comments like "aren't you a little too old for this?" or "they get older every year" with a scowl.Yikes its just candy people!and you sure can make a kid feel crappy by saying stuff like that.

I went trick or treating right up till I was 15. I figure as long as they've got a good costume and are having fun and getting out who cares! And as posted above it is to bad that people have to make comments about age!

She's so young yet! If anyone has anything to say about her age tell her just to ignore it. People can mind their own buisness and let kids be kids. It's one night of fun that creates lasting memories!

She's more than welcome to trick or treat at my house! As long as they have a costume and good around the little kids, I don't care what age they are to get treats at my house. I have a 14yr old, that loves Halloween, she's been working on her costume for a couple weeks now. This year she is more geared up for monster mash, but if she wants to trick or treat, I will not stop her.  
It's harmless fun, and why push them to grow up too fast.

We trick or treat every year, and we're now 21-22. (However we now have a child so, we have an even better excuse to go out and trick or treat.) Before hand, we always offered to take out neighbourhood kids so parents could stay home with smaller children, and/or hand out candy.  
 
We always go out in full costume, and actually it's often stuff we make for comic-con. People usually get a good giggle out of it, and always welcome us and tell us it's great to see us doing it, instead of being so drunk we can't function. Best of luck to her! And if possible, see if she can take a neighbourhood kid. I did it for 4-5 years and it was a ton of fun.

I totally agree with the posts that as long as they dress up, anyone coming to my house always got treats. I often gave away things other than candy (pencils, erasers, stickers, small toys from Smile Makers), and occasionally if I knew the 'older kid' (small towns, could often figure it out), I would put a condom in their trick or treat bag!  
I live rurally now, and don't get any kids.

If you are in costume, you are never too old!.  
it is the ones that aren't dressed up that bothers me, I still give them something, just not "the good stuff" lol.  
I also agree that it is better than having them sitting around zombified on electronics.

you are in costume, you will always get candy at our house, after dusk. I don't understand people who release their children at 4:30-5pm. We come home, share a family meal & then the lights go on & everyone is welcome, but not before dusk.

We barely get any trick or treaters in our area which is right by an elementary school so we always find that strange but if anyone comes in a costume we are super happy to hand out candy!  
 
The only people we have had come early are parents with really little ones, 3 yrs and younger. Which is understandable. When I was growing up it was always supper first and then trick or treating!

My 13 year old is taller than me and probably won't go this year (sad as true they are judged as they look older).  
 
As long as they are dressed up and polite you most certainly will get candy at my house. My only advice is don't go too late, some of the older kids come later (doesn't bother me personally but have heard others comment). They are only kids once, and grow up too fast.

If some kids or kids in their hearth come to my door in their custom I will give them candy. if some adults gets happy by going to trick & treat, having some candy and have some fun, I have no problem making them happy with couple of candies.  
I do not like seeing adults or tall kids knocking on the door in scary custom very late at night though, like around 9ish. I do not open the door for them anyway. So if you are a tall kid, please do not go around too late or in scary face covering customs.
