Fishin Guy said "They are looking at a goal of $100,000 that works out to be about $2,300 per unit. Now is the money going to go to people renting or to the owner of the trailer? If it is going to go to both then you will be getting very minimal. Funny they are asking that much to help cover the cost of moving/demolition. The owner of the park is contributing $5000 per unit or $205,000 to the people. That is more than double the go fund me asking. "
The notice also states the landlord will pay $5,000 when the trailer is “moved off the property and the lot left in a clean condition” between Jan. 1 and May 30, 2019. If moved between June 1 and June 30, the landlord will pay $3,500. between july 1 and july 30 $500.
The cost of either moving or demo will easily exceed even the $5000 even if it can be done in the jan 1 to may 30 time frame.
The facts are that the landlord is doing what he could have done 10 years ago and offered the $500 as compensation per the residnetial tanancy act. It is a generous offer!
The bigger issues is the availability of affordable housing in and around Brandon . The rents the renter have paid and the lot rents the lot renters have paid in this development are at the lowerest end of the housing market which is well below the 1% vancancy rate that we have in the city of Brandon. Some would suggest that 2 to 3 bedrooms 1 bath vacancy rate in this price range they are paying would be almost zero!
For those not directly involved in this situation be aware that this is a much bigger issue . That is 41 less affordable housing options in this city!
