I started a thread years back based on the funny side. Year in year out I live it. Last night I thought I figured out 70 degrees would be a truce temperature. She must have heard -70.  
 
So this season yet again I lost. As this winter. My threats ooops suggestions of a plastic lockable guard was answered with suggestions of hammers and things.  
 
So I may look at a internet of things thing. Nest? I have no clue yet. I know if I can be on holdays in upper Bolivia and change my house temp through my phone. I can do it from the safety of my garage or bed without the better have knowing til later. Short term advantage but I will have most of the winter covered before she catches on. She is not a e brandoner.

Although I sympathize with you wife, since I'm one that sleeps on top of the blankets with the temperature below 60, and she sleeps under every blanket she can find, as for the rest of the house, for the rest of the day, 70 sounds livable.  
Lets hope she doesn't get wise to what your up to, or the cold will be the least of your worries, plan B will not involve the themastat but opening windows.

My optimal temperature is what is known as "room temperature" while y husband thinks 23 is perfect. He's even had he heat on in the morning because it's a cool 21. Ridiculous! If you find one of those plastic locked boxes......I'm in! Lol

I'd like to suggest installing a new thermostat in a hidden location and taking the wires from the current stat.

Sounds all to familiar.  
Also ... if you haven't seen it you'll find this worth the watch. (Oscar and Emma from Corner Gas go from an analog thermostat to a digital one and it's so funny and true - the intro is long for some reason, but enjoy the 5 minutes of funny)  
 
 
 
So my suggestion? Go back to analog where the temperature is vague! Ha ha. Good Luck!

I like Garrett's idea but she would figure it out quick enough,  
 
 
I did the lock box threat as a joke some years back. She reminded me they can be bashed off fairly easily.  
As it goes I might as well give up and put a on off switch there. The science of thermostats must not have been taught at Home ec or Neelin.

Funny thread. Hope she is not like my ex. 23 degrees in the summer and house was too hot and had to crank the ac colder but 23 degrees in the winter was too cold and had to crank up the heat! Not sure how that happens but it did.

Collie, around here I''m the like it cold person, and I''ve had it explained to me this way, it''s cold in here, must be a draft. I don''t feel the draft but I''ve been told it''s there.  
Should also add that it gets really hot for everyone if you bring out a candle to prove your point that there are no drafts.

I hope not to offend anyone, so if I say something that could be interpretted as being rude or funny, it's meant to be funny! Doug, please know that it is not only your significant other that suffers from this phenomenon. I think it has been hard wired in half of the population's mind since the electric stove was invented. If you want something to get hot fast you turn the dial to high, so therefore if you are cold you should turn the thermostat to 100, when you really only need the temperature to go up 2 degrees. Try to get someone who is not married to your significant other to explain it and you might have a chance...might. This is a real world problem. I know an engineer that works at a company that designs heating systems for office buildings and they have developed a thermostat that no matter how much it gets changed, up or down, the actual temperature only changes 1/2 a degree. They call it a solution, I call it proof that 50% of the population is unteachable.

Lots of couples are the opposite-she runs hot and he's a frozen turkey ;) If you have a cold-blooded partner, then make sure you shower them with gifts of warm, fuzzy socks, fleecy yoga pants, cozy sweaters, and possibly the greatest invention know to humanity yet, a microwavable magic bag. Pop a magic bag in the micro for a minute and you have a nice warm portable heater to tuck inside your sweater.

whoever pays the heat bill sets the stat in my house,you want it warmer tan 70 in the winter and cooler than 76 in the summer then start paying the bill baby

I actually thought of your original post from years ago, a couple weeks ago.  
 
My husband always wants to tarp the AC early and I'd prefer to leave it, just in case. Yes, we open the windows most days but our house holds heat really well and sometimes I just want the damn ac on lol  
 
He's tarped it for the 2nd time this Fall so I guess he's winning this battle this time lol  
 
I hope he sweats to death one day.....said in a loving tone of course
