Anybody have any experience with Herzing college? Online or in person courses? What are your experiences?  
Know of a young person who is looking in to which career college would be the best option. I have heard some positive and not so positive things about two other career colleges, but nothing about Herzing.

It depends on what the course is-do they provide a work experience component that will allow the student to get immediate placement after graduation? Are the instructors former or current practitioners in their field? Also, remember that these are private vocational colleges and have no relationship with any community colleges or universities-that means there is no transfer credit possible, if the future, the student wants to go to ACC or BU.

Did the Herzing pharmacy tech course a few years ago... basically had to teach myself from the textbook. This was nearly 10 years ago at their location in Winnipeg though.

and I assume you have employment now, and that you were able to complete a practicum easily?  
Did they help with practicum placement, or did you have to look after that yourself?

I do have employment now, but not in that field. I am now gainfully employed after going back to school a second time at ACC for a trade.  
 
The practicum was not exactly easy to obtain, but they did try to help with the placement. Due to wanting to fulfill my practicum requirements in another city (Brandon instead of Winnipeg), they were not really well equiped to assist.  
 
After the practicum ended, I was not offered job placement at the employer I was placed with. I later found a part time job, which I had to obtain on my own, as Herzing in Winnipeg tends to have "perimeteritis" - in that outside of the city you are on your own.  
 
The instructors that I had were less than helpful, one having no practical experience for the job, the other working two other jobs besides teaching, so there was a lot of "work at your own pace".  
 
It may be that I just had a bad experience, but personally I wouldn't be recommending Herzing to anyone. The cost of it (fairly steep) to the "career" outcome from the course, were not balanced.  
 
Please have this young person really do their research on their intended field - for example, are there jobs available? What is the starting salary/wage (does it make the course valuable or not worthwhile)? Is there further schooling/exams/courses that they will need prior to employment? Perhaps even get them to speak to someone in the field they are thinking of, to get a real-world perspective on the job.

Thanks for the info. This is what we've heard about other career colleges as well. Worth looking in to Herzing though, just to see if they were maybe any different. From what I gather, it is likely better to go to an actual community college such as ACC or Red River.  
 
I think the biggest issue for this young person is not that they could not complete the program either in class or independently, but if there is going to be nothing at the end for them, difficulty getting a practicum placement, etc, then weighing the cost with that possibility is a big concern.
