Music download prices going up. Acceptable or bad timing?

Per the link below, both Amazon and Apple/Itunes are having to up the price on many popular songs from 99 cents per download to $1.29 per download.
Everything I've read indicates that the price hike is because of the industry itself raising the cost of the songs to Apple, Amazon, etc.
The actual pricing will be tiered, so some songs will be 69 cents, some 99, and some $1.29.
The $1-a-song idea of course had a lot of appeal a few years ago and was aguably a major reason that the industry was able to lure many people towards pay-per-song online download services. Will $1.29 in your opinion make any difference in how many purchases your average person makes? Does it effect your opinion of the industry in any way?
