Epiphone guitar

So I got myself an Epiphone Les Paul Standard guitar a couple of days ago. Nice and feels solid.
I tried one before as a loaner for a week and it felt good. However, this new one (same model) felt a little different. Like I had to press my Barre chords a little harder in the middle. The strings near the neck also seem higher. Is it because it is new, or because the strings were different type/brand?
