I'm looking for a local band to play a backyard party and have no idea where to start looking. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

A party? No one better to play than Numbskull (find em on facebook). Talk to ken. Otherwise ask venues such as the 40, the north hill inn, georgios, double decker.

We are looking for a band that plays oldies, pop, and possibly country.

am always partial to FUGR or Clubbing Fragles.... lots of classic rock/pop & some country. Songs everyone knows and just gets right into, plus the guys are awesome & fun.

While I love that people are recommending FUGR. I have to say we are most likely NOT what you have in mind. The big question is how much are you willing to pay said band? Also will there be a sound system or do they have to bring that as well? Thanks again for FUGR recommendations.  

I would have to recommend Hicktown, they are a great group of folks that have a pile of talent and can make any occasion fun! They are located out of Treherne.  
 
If you need a DJ however, I can also make a recommendation for that as well  

Be prepared to pay the band cash money unless they are willing to work (and it is work) for free, which is highly unlikely with most of the bands mentioned.  
 
I see you stated what type of music you are looking for, however, will there be monetary recompense for the entertainment? Will the police show up to shut it down if a neighbour complains? Will there be a stage and/or shelter in case of rain or high winds? Is there an option to move it indoors if needed?  
 
I have played in several bands that have played outdoor gigs, including a HUGE party south of Brandon (thanks Whiskey!!!) and there are pitfalls to look out/plan for.
