Just moved to Brandon and I'm wondering if there are any younger bands in town doing original music. High school bands, college bands, rock, indie, pop-rock stuff. Country....Brandon seems big enough that each of the high schools should have at least one band. And with the university and the college, I assume there are a handful of these acts around. No?  
 
It seems hard to find out about any of that stuff here.

Not much of a scene here from what I've seen. Some metal bands. I'd like to hear of some rock bands if there are. There's some punk around: Moledebater, Numbskull. Metal: The Void, arcticcircle. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. I'm probably missing others.

The 204 band is amazing. Influences of pop, rock, and folk. Four teenagers. Excellent vocals and jaw dropping guitar skills. You can hear them in local restaurants as well as on their youtube site The 204.

Engines of creation is an instrumental rock band along the lines of Satriani/Vai. And long time scenesters 18 Rabbit. Not sure how young these lads are though!

Instead of young, and you get more selection. Some have already been mentioned. Ad Ek's Noise, and Tremendous Dynamite to the list. There are some ridiculously talented players in this town. Young and older.

Best bet is to find an originals-friendly venue (we don't have many) and watch for the show postings. You might be surprised with what you hear!

The 40 always have good bands. This past Sat, Boogie Nights were there but they are not a young band. Daisy Chain is coming on the 16th. The CCR tribute band (not young) is here this Friday.

Totally fair. I'm not anti-older bands, nor am I ageist, I'm sure there are TONS of fantastic bands of all ages. However I had just been told that most of the older bands are playing covers at the 40 and stuff like that. I'm more into originals. However...personally not really into metal either.

It really seems like their should be more bands though. Brandon has the same amount of Music Stores as Thunder Bay (with only half the population). Theres gotta be enough people buying gear to keep those places open. When I a teen that city had a few places where all ages shows were pretty regular and touring bands were coming through all the time. Brandon seems like it should have a thriving scene. Am I way off here? Someone told me the scene is pretty dead. That doesn't seem possible with the amount of people/musicians in this town.

Meh it's mostly rich kids who'd rather party in the bars or they're too poor to even bother going to a show.

Double Decker on tenth street & Rosser ave are well known for having bands,artists local and surrounding area talent play at thei establishment most wknds.

Back in the 70s this was a common occurrence and I'm sure spawned a few bands and opened the door for young talent.
