I can understand not having the paddle pools open until July/August because they require staffing. But what I don't understand is why they can't just turn the spray parts on in May/June.
Everywhere else we've been, including Winnipeg and Shilo, have the spray features on starting in May, on a timer, so they only operate certain times of day (10 a.m. to 8 p.m., for example).
In places where they have an attached paddle pool (such as Central Park in Winnipeg, which we've been to in May), they simply leave the drains in the pool open so water doesn't accumulate. But that way, the spray part is open for hot days and can be used. The spray-only parks are unattended in most places anyway.
I wonder how feasible it would be for the city to do something like that. Even if they just turn on 1 or 2 spray parks early (such as Stanley Park and the one on 1st Street, neither of which have pools), it would help a lot. There's been quite a few days already that I've wished the parks were open already. My SIL has brought her kids in Winnipeg to their local spray park 4 or 5 times already!!
