So as I was waiting to go to work this morning I noticed the neighbor across the street had a guy with a bobcat clearing their driveway. When he moved the snow he pushed it across the street onto the city sidewalk in front of my house. I opened the front door and tried to get his attention and ask him not to do it but he didn't see me. I didn't get jacket/boots on in time to go talk to him.  
I wasn't impressed but not too concerned about it. I know there was a push on for residents to clean their front sidewalk. While mine wasn't perfect it was ok...I had cleaned it with my snowblower on Monday but there was the recent snot still there. Now there is a huge pile of snow there. It is close to blocking the hydrant. Can I be held responsible for this? I am not sure if there is a fine or anything but I am wondering if this is going to become my problem.  
I don't know if this was just a friend they asked to do the driveway or if it is a business but shouldn't this guy have known better????  
I am sure someone will have some bitter comments but I don't want to be held responsible for what this guy did........any constructive comments would be appreciated.

Ask your neighbor who they hired

I don't really care who did it. It isn't in my way but will cause anyone who is walking down the sidewalk to go around it onto the street.  
I just want to know if I would be held responsible if there was a complaint that it is blocking the city sidewalk in front of my house.  
If I would be responsible then yes, I will contact the neighbor and have them fix the problem.

think you answered your own question. If there is a complaint made, you, not the contractor will be held responsible for this.  
 
That is why it would be helpful to know what contractor cleared their snow.  
 
Chances are with how busy things are right now, IF the contractor was to come back to clear this, they're not going to be in any rush to get over to your residence.

Before returning home from work I received a call that there was a complaint that my sidewalk was blocked. I explained so now I will check with the neighbour and have the original guy come and clean up the mess he made. I hope that this doesn't cause problems between me and my neighbours. It wasn't my intent. Happy shovelling everyone.

but it's not your fault. It is the responsibility of the contractor, but unfortunately you as the homeowner get the blame. It also isn't the responsibility/fault of your neighbour. The fault lies on the contractor who dumped snow on city property. Good luck!

Seems my neighbour didn't hire anyone. His buddy just cleaned the driveway while he was going by in a bobcat without his knowledge.  
HOWEVER, it all seems this is a waste of discussion as I came home tonight to find the ENTIRE sidewalk on both sides of the street were covered by the city when they plowed.  
I won't complain about any of it. Neighbour didn't have to call his friend about the problem, no one can complain now AND the best part is....my street is plowed. :-) The city even did a great job clearing my driveway. Thank you!!!

Who did you receive a call from that someone complained that your sidewalk was blocked?  
There is no bylaw for residential snow removal on sidewalks!!

but people CAN complain & they will.  
Especially near a fire hydrant.
