I am not saying that this 17 year old should not be tried and if convicted punishment issued.  
 
But unless treatment is given this behavior will never start and will grow and eventually cause injury and death to people.  
 
Someone doesn't just wake up at 17 and decide to start fires. This behavior starts way before. It is too bad that someone didn't identify this and got treatment for the 17 year old way before it go to this stage.

You could be right or this individual might have had opportunities for intervention unless you are saying you know that back story. Making broad statements around tragic situations is playing with fire.

That's what an undisciplined generation brings with it. Unless parents wake up and take responsibility and discipline their young children it is going to get worse. You have a whole generation of parents that think its harsh to discipline a disobedient child. I'm not talking about abusing a child. I mean. Discipline with LOVE, not anger.  
 
You have drug issues everywhere and they reproduce as well. Do you really think they are responsible enough to raise a child? How should that child learn? Who should teach it right from wrong? I'm sorry but I believe society is on a huge downward spiral and there's nothing anyone can do anymore.

It's unfortunate that this has happened. I would think that this youth has some mental health issues to do something like this.  
 
You can't assume that it's because the kid had bad parents. I can't even assume that they had mental health issues. The truth is we don't know. That being said, it seems to me that this is a slightly different scenario than the young people who were rifling through other people's cars like in that other thread.

I agree with @treehugger to a point, this generation that is now coming of age (for lack of better words) has a lot of issues: out of controlled drugs, bad parenting, bad work ethic, entitled, the list goes on...... but I will play devils advocate on this one, my instant thought when I hear this continues complaint, is "who are the ones who raised this inadequate generation?" I see a "wiser" older generation looking down at the generation that they raised and saying they are failures. Who then at that point is to blame? The teacher or the student? If the ones that raised, taught and brought up these now young adults did a good job, would they be as disastrous as they are? Would they themselves not be better parents, and be more of a positive in this society if the ones that taught them were adequate themselves? Or is this one inadequate generation raising another inadequate generation that is now starting to raise the next inadequate generation? I suppose it is food for thought anyway. Maybe we are just all fooling ourselves with how high and intelligent we really are.

One of my sons was with his girlfriend and their baby in one of those houses. If they had not have been woken up, they would all be dead.  
 
I don't care if he has "issues" or not - he could have very easily killed at least 4 people....  
 
Lock this punk up and throw away the key.

I'm consistently amazed at the number of highly trained psychologists, sociologists, and politicians in these eBrandon threads. What a wonderful discussion that will undoubtedly lead to agreement among all individuals involved. /s  
 
In all seriousness, I'm glad no one got hurt and that the individual responsible is in custody. I don't know if much more needs to be said.

This is terrifying. My first thought about the random addresses is that it might be targeted but whatever their case I hope this person gets help.

I tend to agree with you, 17 is old enough to know the consequences of your actions!
