I'm wondering what that stench is in Brandon? The smell was quite noticeable tonight.  
 
Can anyone enjoy the outdoors while that smell is around?

does it smell like?

It seems worse out by hydro on the east end. I'm wondering if it is either the sewage treatment plant or rotting vegetation from the flood (likely a combination). It doesn't really smell like the hog plant to me.

It smells like a slough outside...  
 
I swear that smell is worse than baby poo.

it does smell like sewage, however someone said that the smell was coming from Koch. Not sure where it originates but glad I am not the type that likes to sit outside and eat supper.

Is Pallister still in town? That would explian the stench.  
On a serious note, that smell will happen with all of the moisture and water table so high. Also, fertilizer plant will be in full swing with startup and then production season gearing up.

has gone back to Winnipeg but I was sure I seen Selinger this afternoon.

I have noticed the smell on and off for the last couple weeks. It's gross

We're in the east end and outside 2x a day almost daily. We haven't smelled anything  
 
We went to visit another daycare in the west end on Friday and noticed a sewage smell immediately. Even my kids smelled it and asked what it was lol

We are in the east end and I smell it often. I have my window open a night and wake up to that smell therefore needing to close my window. I strongly believe it is Koch. It smells like a natural gas smell - rotten egg almost. I have only noticed since Koch took over from Simplot (IMO).  
ANd the sound they make when burning off stuff (as I was told) is annoying but I got used to it on the most part.

A lovely mixture of fresh pig pooh and swear, a scrumptious mixture for the weak of tummies lol

You must be plugged with allergies or a cold. Drove back in from Winnipeg last evening and the smell in the East end by landfill and Hydro was putrid, even with the windows rolled up. Smelled just like a hog barn.

You don't need to live in the East end to smell it, you could smell it all the way over at the Vic Inn last night. I even took a look at the bottom of my shoe cause I figured I stepped in my ignorant neighbors dog s*** again!

We are north of the city and smelled it way out here. I have smelled it while in the north end of brandon and the central part of the city last week

The smell is probably the joys of being surrounded by agriculture. It is around this time every year that farmers will spread manure in the fields. Compared to the price of fertilizer this is a much cheaper option.

Its definitely not a couple farmers spreading manure on their fields. Being raised on a farm I know all about that and this is no where near that although the smell is similar.

I smell it a bit in the evening/night when my window is open but almost never during the day while we''re outside....it''s weird!  
 
We're near kuipers and tastees and are usually drooling over those smells instead haha

It's most likely from the City lagoons that are just east of Brandon on the road to Shilo  
 
We have had a lot of east winds that have most likely caused the odor to drift into Brandon

Doesn't it smell like ammonia? That's what comes to mind when I go outside...starting to get tired of the smell that's for sure!

I'm sitting here sort of chuckling to myself about people not knowing what is causing the smell. Now I have a decent sense of smell, so if you all want to get together and pool a bit of money, I have a nose to rent, and I'll try and track it down.

If it is ammonia you are smelling I would be guessing it is from the Koch plant.

Smells absolutely nothing like ammonia. It smells like the sewage lagoon and I am thinking the East winds last couple of days blew it in to the city.

Best guess would be the sewage lagoon. It usually stinks up our fair city every year in late spring/early summer. Smells like it got a head start this year, LOL.

As a mixture of burnt hair and sewage. Ew!

I have noticed a similar sewer like smell all over Souris too and I'm surprised no one has mentioned it yet. Any ideas Don Brown? You don't have to travel far to give your nose a workout, lol.

When the wind gets out of the north east at Souris the biggest smell seems to be that of the cattle operation out east. The good old smell of manure from cattle operations takes on a whole new smell when you start feeding silage, not the smell that many of us grew up with, silage manure is nasty smelling in my opinion. The lagoon in town does smell at times but I don't think that it is that bad. For a while there was the idea that on the large hog operations the lagoon should have straw blown out on the lagoon to reduce smell, don't think the idea went far.  
For myself, the smell I dislike the most is if materials are stockpiled and begin to decompose, this creates methane, and depending what is decomposing the smell can be not so great, and at times have a burnt smell to it depending how hot the pile gets.

I've also noticed an odd smell in the east end in the morning lately, but it was more like a burnt match/sulfur type odor, making the Koch plant the likely source. Further north on 17th St E, the pharmaceutical plant at times emanates a very sweet odor reminiscent of ether, otherwise known as Kwik Start, used to assist starting diesels on cold mornings. Don't know anything about the production process, but this substance might be a byproduct of it, although I doubt the company would officially confirm it.
