When we built our home they had brought natural gas into thecSouris area, but not for rural customers, and in the ten years previous to us building our house we had lived in a mobile with extremely thin walls. Part of my decision was because over those ten years we saw propane prices make some extreme swings and electricity seemed to make more of a predictable increase.
I was pretty budget conscience when we built, so running wire and a breaker, thermostat and baseboard came in far cheaper than a forced air electric and all the duct work. Over the thirty years since we built there has only been one baseboard that has needed to be replaced.
Now that the kids are gone we do leave some bedrooms turned down around the 10C temp. For me it was a combination of thing that took us the direction of baseboards, but the convience of individual room temperature was a bonus.
