Take them on a trip instead. We adopted this tradition after a friend of mine when I was a child. Each year instead of doing the "Christmas" presents, tree , lights, we went on a family trip. Costed the same amount, and in the end we got to see different parts of the world (not every trip was international, but a few were). Was a better gift than material crap.
