Giving used items as presents.....

How many of you do this?
I am not talking re-gifting, I am talking purchasing something used, like on Ebrandon or Value village, and giving that as a gift to someone.
Are there certain people you would give something used to and not to others?
Are there some items you would give used and some you would never?
