Real Xmas Trees - How Long Should they last....

I purchased my REAL Christmas tree a week ago Sunday and it is totally dried up, turning brown and needles are falling off so badly that I'm worried that by Xmas day I will have a Charlie Brown tree
We are hosting Christmas this year and I realy wanted to have a nice tree - so
I paid good money for this tree in hopes that it would last, it was a great looking tree for a few days, and I watered it faithfully every day... even added the special stuff to the water that the business gave me with the tree...
I thought I should phone and complain, but just wanted to get an idea of how long trees on average last?
