Sadie Hawkins Day

A post in another thread got me thinking. What ever happened to Sadie Hawkins day? The last one I remember was about 1972/73. The girls used to ask out the guys and made elaborate corsages for the boys/men to wear. I think it used to be on the second weekend in November.
In grade eight one girl asked me out to meet my brother and another girl asked him out to meet me. By the end of the night, we were both with each other's dates.
Anyone else have memories of S.H. day?
