What do you consider "gossip"

This is a spin off regarding another thread going on right now.
In regards to gossip, what do you tolerate and what do you take a stand on?
In my opinion, when you entrust someone with your "bad day" or marital problems, or trauma's that have happened in your life would you think that this being your friend (obviously) would hold this information in confidence. You wouldnt think that this would become coffee time banter (or I wouldnt anyway). Where do you draw the line at gossiping, or as some put it just chatting and what would you do to put a stop to it?
