Living together before marriage

Just curious on other peoples opinions as my boyfriend and I don't share the same opinion.
I am not sure on his exact reasoning but he wants to get married before living together. Part to do with his beliefs I think.
I was just wondering if people out there still did that. Got married and then lived together and if it works.
