Interesting article. Sometimes for first dates I do think that having it planned out would be a good thing. Both people get to come into it without fretting if their plans are something the other would enjoy, etc. Both people do need to be open to let things flow but I think it could be a fun thing.

Being single, in my late forties and probably old school, I think a woman wants a man to show some initiative when organizing a date and I would say the same applies vice versa.  
If a woman asked me on a date, it is much more appealing to know that she used "her" brain to organize something.  
I date a person for who they are.  
It definitely wouldn't appeal to me to know someone else had organized the date.  
The problem I have is actually finding someone honest and genuine enough to ask on a date. They are few and far between.

it is like dating a fake person, if the planning date is that great then might as well date the date planner.  
Are people watching too much TV and believe too much in shows

And in doing so........ I am trying to get people out and taking part in a fun evening at Escape the Final Countdown... they have a team less Tuesday ..... sounds like nice way to meet new people ...

I actually would be semi-offended if my date used this service. I mean, show some initiative and thought. Planning a date isn't exactly rocket science, and if you're just the type of person who would throw money at a problem like that, you're not my type of guy...  
 
(Dating is overrated anyway. My husband and I been together 13.5 years, married for 11, and I could probably count of my fingers the number of "real" dates we had. A "date" for us was going for a walk, or maybe Home Depot to get some parts so he can fix something for me. :D)

And I do like your bracketed comment. True dating is a challenge, but spend an afternoon with someone trying to put together ikea furniture and you will see the true colours come out! Probably one of my most enjoyable date afternoons in recent years was just being out price checking and buying a bar be que

The first few weeks we dated, my husband fixed stuff around my house and did things like show me how to program the thermostat. I did things like cook him dinner and suckered him into helping friends move.  
 
Maybe it's an introvert thing, but I got far more out of those experiences than any "dating" would. We moved in together after only a few months and haven't looked back.

I do it all the time, I love it, me and the wife have a great time usually and she will never know anyway so it`s all good I think.

Planning your own date is so much more personal. It gives the the other person a taste of who you are. In my opinion, it's tacky.
