I was talking to some friends and we were discussing the online dating scene and how it is soley based on the picture (if someone chooses to share) and the des:cription of yourself.  
 
As a person looking for a mate on a dating site:  
1. Does their picture soley make your decision to go on perhaps ask them out?  
2. Do you even review the des:cription area?  
 
As a person that is posted on a dating site:  
1. Is your picture tweaked at all?  
2. Is your des:cription of yourself 100% accurate?  
 
I know for myself that there are some men on POF that exagerated the truth somewhat to make themselves sound better. I am sure there are women too however I can't speak to that.  
 
In this day and age of online dating, we really put alot of emphasis on the looks as that is the first thing that we see. I know I do the same. If the person doesn't appeal to my interests, they are passed over. What are the chances that I am passing over the best guy in the world???

I met the love of my life on LavaLife. I had photos in the 'backstage', only visible to others if I chose to let them see. My pictures were not tweaked at all, and my description was 100% accurate. My (now) husband was the same, nothing exaggerated or tweaked in his profile or photos. It was his 'tag line' that caught my eye at first, we have a very similar sense of humor and I thought it was hilarious, so started chatting with him. In his profile, he said he had been on the site in the past and had 'had a good experience', which I thought was very thoughtful.

If you can't stand to look at your partner then I would say, you probably wouldn't want them to be your partner.......

People are vain...no polite way to put it.  
 
I met my guy on POF, and I say he's far better looking in person than his pics. I figured we'd meet and see what happens...and wow...so glad I did.

People are visual creatures, that's just life. In job interviews, the impression you make within the first few seconds can make/break whether you advance to the second round/get the job or get passed on. The same holds equally true for dating profiles. Nobody can decipher what someones personality is by looking at a profile picture, but it determines if the person is attractive enough to bother looking at profile info. Sounds shallow, but that's life.

It's no different than meeting someone in "real life" first. Whether you spot them at the bar, or a grocery store or at a concert, you don't look at a person and think to yourself, "Oh Gee, he/she looks like they have a nice personality, let's see if they're up for a chat."  
 
When you first see someone, it's something about their physical appearance that first catches your eye. It could be their smile, or eyes or their butt, but there's something you find appealing, whether you're consciously aware of it or not.  
 
Dating sites just tend to cut through the bullcrap and not pretend that people don't initially judge attraction based off of looks. Don't get me wrong, there is much more to a person than their looks, and while you fall in lust with someone over how they look, and in love with them for who they are and the connection you have, I don't believe that connection stands a chance if you're not mutually attracted to what's on the outside.

I hate it when you're on a dating app or whatnot and people have pictures of only half their face, they have their face covered of there's multiple people in the picture and you can't figure out which person is actually them. I pass right by all of these when I'm looking.  
 
I never use tweaked pictures either, that's like false advertising.

I am not comfortable putting pics up but I do it because I'd rather the person be attracted to me or if they're going to pass me by on looks I'd like them to do so immediately and we don't waste each others time. Since I take the plunge and post pics, I expect that the other person, if they contact me and don't have a picture, they will send me pics privately. Otherwise it feels weird, because they KNOW who they're talking to and I don't. Anyone who doesn't get that is a creep in my estimation.

Here to make an impact on your heart not your eyes. Knowing my own self worth is all I need: took me time to find my own self love (after failed relationships). I have stopped apologizing for who I am and learned that I am perfect the way I am right now, in the moment. The right person will appreciate, respect and love me because I myself appreciate, respect and love me.  
 
The most exciting, challenging and significant relationship I have experienced has been with my self. If I can find someone who can love the way I love, well, that would be just wonderful and fabulous.

Why is that people on pof will fall for a bio that is false but one that is short and to the point they pass it by the ones that have been on there for ages are the ones that fall for the unreal bios and then they wonder why they are single

There isn't that much difference, I mean, if you base your interest, your first impression, on a picture or what they look like when they walk into a room. The first impression is still based on appearance. If they don't interest you, you most likely don't bother making contact. As for pictures, and I'm guilty of this too LOL, a lot of people leave up or put up pictures from ten or fifteen years ago or even longer.

I met my husband on POF about 8 years ago. I always scanned through the pictures first and if something caught my eye, I would then read their write up. They didn't have to be drop dead gorgeous but the reality is, if I looked at their pic and knew there was no way in hell I would date them, I moved on. I always kept an open mind on dates. I always found the guys that I started out thinking were just "okay" turned out to be the best dates in person. To be honest I never would have picked my husband but he reached out to me. I read his profile and liked what it said so much that it made me find him more appealing. After our first date we hit it off so well that we knew we'd go out again. The rest is history I guess. I recently helped out a friend the other day set up a profile and gave her some tips. Sad to say Triplethreat is right.......there are people still on their with the same pics from 8 years ago. Those photos were probably from 8 years ago back then. Not sure why people do that as you have to meet in person eventually right?!?! Best advice I can give is be yourself, post that pic and if they don't like you......good riddance. But don't be afraid to reach out to someone you like........just because they flipped past your pic doesn't mean they won't consider you. Picture only says so much. Can't possibly give a person a true reflection of who they are.

When u say guys won't go out for a coffee or what ever that's because those are fake profiles the ones that put up a fancy bio and that's what I mean woman fall for it
