So I was out for supper with my son and I found myself wanting to ask our waitress for her number. I didn't because she was at work and it didn't really seem appropriate to me and I got to thinking..is it appropriate to ask someone for their number or whatever while they're at work in a setting like that? I mean, they're at work so to me it doesn't really seem like a good time to do so...thoughts?

wait for them to leave work, then approach them then...totally not creepy at all ....haha  
ok, seriously, im a single dad too, I have asked someone working before if they are married or single. its a little embarrassing, but so far the honesty has been considered sincere, not rude by the women I asked. after all, you never know till you ask right?

In a case like that I don't see why not. There may not be another opportunity and after they are done there shift might just be creepy lol. If a appropriate time came up that you could ask then maybe they would prefer you to give them your number instead. That way the ball is in their court and they don't have to give there number or won't feel pressured to give it if they aren't interested or unsure. Worst case scenario they say no..?

I agree with 4U2NV:0), depending on the business some employers/managers can be testy about stuff like that, so a short note and name and number is a great idea...tip too lol

In front of your son, maybe not the best idea. However, 3 things: Pen/pencil, the bill, your name and number. Its suddle and if she's interested, the phone will ring, if not you've made her day and no harm done. Good luck to ya.

What I'd do is, tell her how beautiful she was and tell her I'd be interested in taking her out for a nice meal or coffee. Then I'd say I've left my name and phone number on the bill if she was interested. Also tell her not to feel obligated to call or text if she wasn't interested. That would be more comforting to her I'm sure, rather then putting her on the spot asking for her number. The chances of her texting you with only a name and number on the bill with no communication about why it's there is very slim. Girls like to feel wanted and not like a piece of meat. Also to tell her not to feel obligated will make her feel very comfortable when making a decision.

It's awkward and could make the person working feel super uncomfortable especially if uninterested as they are unable to leave while working.

I agree to wait until you're leaving to not make things awkward. Putting your number on the table with a tip and then letting her know it's there if she's interested, seems like a good idea. I wouldn't ask her during the meal because if she's not interested, it will make it awkward and then she still has to serve you.

Yeah I had thought about leaving my number on the bill or something but I didn't have a pen plus the place was turning into a zoo. I also didn't think it was a good idea to ask her out in front of my kid, just weird. Maybe the girl with the blue key will see this and pm me!

Work is work. Work is not a dating site. I'm against dating in workplace be it coworkers or employee/customer.  
 
It makes it very uncomfortable to have to deal with a customer after he has asked you out and you have turned him down.

This time take a friend (another guy, that is). Although it was many years ago, we were told to flirt with the male customers because it ensured bigger orders and bigger tips. So, she may have been super-nice because of that. Or she may have been super-sweet because a dad out with his son just melts most women's hearts. So, go back again and get a seat in the same section as before. Even if she is not working you can always ask your server the name of the "pretty woman who was serving in this section last Friday." They will likely tell you her name. Then just keep going back and getting in that section until you see her again. If she was interested she will recognize you. Strike up a bit of a conversation this time, ask her about her work, if she is also a student, has any kids/boyfriend/husband, etc. Then you will know whether she is a good date prospect. Better to spend a few bucks now and be sure before you ask her out. At least you will be well fed ;)

It would've been inappropriate, good call. Like, if she wasn't interested she would've been on the spot being at work, in public, in front of your kid etc.  
I think the idea of leaving a note is a good one, or if you do go there again with an adult friend, you might get a better idea if theres any spark, and either ask her out or leave a note AT THE END of the meal, so again you dont make it awkward for her.

i remember waitressing thinking i wished one of my regular customers would actually ask, i could tell one of them liked me but wasn't sure which one haha but now a days i could see how if i wasnt interested how awkward it could be so to avoid that but still take your shot im thinking what shotgun said hed do, done when paying the bill, would be an excellent way to go

I agree that you should wait until you are in your out and leave your number. If she is interested, she'll call. I know a lot of people have said that you shouldn't but I don't see the harm. Back in the day when I was a waitress, it never bothered me if a guy asked me out. Even if I didn't like them. It's a compliment and it's harmless. I like to hear that people still ask people out face to face. It seems sating has become a dying art and all online these days.

You might be surprised how many people meet while serving. I personally would've preferred someone ask me out over a note. I probably wouldn't have called the number even if I was interested. So then you're putting the shoe on her foot so my advice is just ask out. I don't think anyone's ever offended if someone suggest dinner sometime or coffee.

Because single people make better tips?! I always thought I got tipped well because I provided my guest with good, prompt service and was friendly... not because I'm single
