Where do people live after they leave a marriage? There is nothing to rent when you have kids, pets and limited income. And if there is something it seems to be extremely pricey and not in the safest neighbourhood!

do you and your spouse live in a house now? If so, sell the house, pay off mortgage and split the rest. You will have a better start.

Or one person keeps the house and pays the other partner their share of it's worth. it is property to be divided.

I had family take us in until we could divide everything. I would also contact The Women's Resource Centre. They might have ideas and know of somethings.

Bases your family size on how many children you have 50% of the time or more. If you have them less than that, you won't qualify.

We bought a house for $170k and our mortgage payments were far less than rent would be. And we could have kids and pets.

I rented; had to ask my parents I take dog and the ex had my cats until I could find an animal friendly place.

With kids and pets if you can buy a cheap house is your best bet. Manitoba housing will allow pets if they currently live with you but the wait list is brutal.

anyone can get more than one mortgage if they can afford it and the bank approves it.

If you're wanting to buy a home on your own, apart from your spouse you'd have to prove you're legally seperated for the time they request. Otherwise your still legally and financially bound to one another. Check with your financial institution for their particular requirements.
