Wearing Pink?
10/7/2010 at 9:14 AM
At the mayoral debate yesterday, Nickolas Avlonitis thought it a politically wise move to comment on the colour of Shari Decter Hirst's outfit, of all things.
"With all the big money set to roll into construction in Brandon, I don't think we need the pink outfit in the middle of it all."
He also went on to say (something along the lines of) "Being a man and a construction worker, I don't want to be lead by someone wearing pink." (Not exact quote, heard the audio clip on StarFM this morning, but couldn't find the quote anywhere online)
Two things are very wrong with this:
He actually thinks it's appropriate/smart to insult the colour of the clothing of one of his opponents, and says it's because he's a man?
And has he forgotten/did he ever know that October is breast cancer awareness month? Y'know, the time of year when many people, of both genders, wear pink to show support/awareness for a disease that kills millions a year?
This needs more attention. People like this should not be running for any position of power in any community that wants to move forward. This guy is a tool, and should be laughed out of the polls.
